The Aspley Hornets Australian Football & Sporting Club is pleased to announce our QAFLW Coaching Panel for the 2020 QAFLW & QAFLW Development League Seasons. Through the planning, interview and appointment processes in bringing together our 2020 QAFLW Coaching Panel, the Club prioritised the increase of resources and subsequent support for our female football players in addition to ensuring the integration and collaboration of our complete female football pathway from U11 girls to QAFLW Senior Football, which will be an increased strategic priority for the Club in 2020.

Jacob Simmons-Bliss enters his fourth season as the Club’s Senior Women’s Coach extending an already successful tenure including delivering the Club’s inaugural Senior Women’s (2018 QWFA Division 1) Premiership in addition to overseeing the successful introduction of the Aspley Hornets into the QAFLW State League in 2019. With an increase in coaching support, Simmons-Bliss will increase his focus on the overall development and progress of the QAFLW football program in addition to dedicating significant time into ensuring that each player performs to their maximum output and delivers on their weapons.
Also entering his fourth season with the Aspley Hornets having served as an Assistant Coach in the journey to the 2018 QWFA Division 1 Premiership and contributing to the Club’s successful elevation to the QAFLW State League, Jay Anderson will continue in his current role as QAFLW Senior Assistant Coach. Anderson will dedicate his time to delivering the Club’s game style, structures and skill development segments of the QAFLW coaching program.
A new member of the Coaching Panel in the role of QAFLW Senior Assistant Coach, James Seidel joins the Hornets from the 2019 QAFLW premiership winning Coorparoo Kings coaching panel. Having served as an Assistant Coach with both the Kings and as a Coach in his own right with the Coorparoo Navy Roos across the AFL Queensland Juniors competitions, James brings with him a thorough knowledge of QAFLW football in addition to strong experience in analysis and player development. Seidel will work on delivering the Club’s game style, tactics, opposition analysis and review, in addition to serving as the dedicated QAFLW Development League Head Coach to ensure a streamlined coaching approach across our QAFLW program.
Entering her third season at the Hornets, her second season on the Club’s QAFLW Coaching Panel and a 2018 senior premiership player, Kylie Guarino will continue her role as QAFLW Assistant Coach with responsibilities in assisting the delivery of our game style, physical preparation and player development and welfare segments of our QAFLW program.
An Aspley Hornets junior and 2018 senior premiership player, Anna Van de Wiel joins the Coaching Panel as QAFLW Assistant Coach, with her responsibilities including collaborating with the Senior Coach to deliver the individual player performance segment of the coaching program – ensuring that each player performs to their maximum output to deliver on their weapons, in addition to working with the Senior Assistant Coach’s to deliver match analysis, decision making and feedback on game day.
The Club’s inaugural QWFA Division 2 Coach, Wayne Pitman, returns to the Hornets in 2020 in the role of Pathways and Player Development Coach. Pitman’s responsibilities will include overseeing the successful transition and support of Youth Girls players into the QAFLW program, serve as a Player Development Coach within the QAFLW program in addition to supporting player welfare across our QAFLW and Youth Girls programs. Pitman will also have match day responsibilities with both the QAFLW teams and U17 Youth Girls team.
Rounding out our 2020 Coaching Panel, Bernie Cantrell will serve in the role of Player Development Coach. With previous experience with both Yeronga South-Brisbane and Coorparoo in the QAFLW combined with his coaching experience in the Tasmanian Leagues, Bernie brings extensive coaching expertise to the Club’s QAFLW program. Cantrell’s responsibilities will involve increasing player understanding, learning & decision making, improving the overall skill standard of the Club’s playing list and serving as the dedicated QAFLW Development League Assistant Coach.
